Position Summary
Responsible for leading bid team in the development of accurate and cost competitive estimates in the commercial, utility, and water or wastewater industries.
Responsibilities:
- Adhere to and promote all Company Safety Policies and the Company Code of Conduct.
- Attend pre-bid meetings to obtain project requirements and objectives.
- Contact suppliers and vendors for material and subcontract pricing.
- Identify and clarify project details with client, engineering, or architectural staff.
- Perform quantity takeoffs as required to build estimate items.
- Identify labor and equipment production for estimate items.
- Evaluate subcontractor and material pricing and perform scope comparisons.
- Research and utilize cost history in the development of labor and equipment production.
- Develop project schedule.
- Monitor progress of bid team to ensure that developmental milestones of the estimate are met.
- Review project plans and specifications to ensure all items are accounted for and plan is in place for execution of the project.
- Perform bid reviews with Project Team and/or Estimating Manager.
- Present final estimate at Executive Officer review.
- Lead the bid team with the estimate closeout process.
- Manage the bid team during the job turnover and buyout process with Operations.
- Regularly visit jobsites to develop and maintain project familiarity and knowledge.
- Provide technical information, change order pricing, and other forms of support as needed to Operations throughout the project.
- Participate in project close out with Operations to review estimated costs versus actual costs.
- Remain current on trends, methodologies and best practices within the construction and cost estimating field.
- Performs miscellaneous other duties and responsibilities to support company strategic initiatives.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline preferred and 2+ years' mechanical estimating experience; OR 5+ years recent mechanical estimating experience. Experience in commercial construction, utility, water/wastewater industries ideal.
- Ability to communicate with clients, executives and individuals at all levels of the organization in order to effectively create and review project estimates.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and stay organized while managing competing priorities.
- Ability to work well under pressure to meet project deadlines.
- Ability to establish goals and objectives to achieve project deadlines and monitor progress
- Ability to work independently while exercising good judgement and strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze information and data skillfully and reach sound conclusions.
- Demonstrated financial acumen and understanding of the business implication of decisions.
- History of successfully working internally with an operational team and externally with engineers/architects, owners, and subcontractors.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Sage/Timberline, PlanSwift, ISqFt or similar software programs.
- Valid US Driver's License.
