Senior Buyer
Location: Massachusetts, MA, Middlesex County
- $100,000 – $130,000 based on experience
- 401(k) with company match up to 5%
- Medical, Dental, Vision, Life & Disability
- Full-time, Factory-based 5 days per week
- 9 fixed days + 2 floating days
- Visa sponsorship and relocation are not available
Umbilical Search is proud to be partnering with a high-technology manufacturing company. The business operates a state-of-the-art facility in Massachusetts, producing advanced technical products for diverse industrial, engineering and technology markets.
Due to continued growth, the business is now seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to join the procurement team at the Massachusetts site.
Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Buyer will be responsible for procuring materials for a specific product line within an engineering manufacturing environment.
- Procure materials for a defined product line within an engineering and manufacturing environment
- Manage long lead time items to ensure continuity of supply and eliminate shortages proactively
- Negotiate supplier pricing, material availability and lead times to secure the best commercial value
- Identify, develop and implement alternative and second sourcing strategies
- Drive cost reduction initiatives across materials and suppliers, including spend analysis
- Support supplier base reduction while maintaining quality and supply performance
- Maintain quality standards and monitor supplier performance across cost, delivery and quality
- Manage end-to-end purchasing activities, including sourcing, purchase orders and scheduling
- Develop and maintain strong, effective supplier relationships and partnerships
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks and resolve supplier issues and escalations
- Work closely with engineering, production, planning and quality teams
- Support new product introductions, engineering changes and continuous improvement initiatives
About You:
- Role: Buyer, Senior Buyer, Purchasing, Procurement or a related background
- Experience required: 5 to 7 years
- Systems and Tools: Strong Excel skills and ability to develop complex spreadsheets + ERP experience
- Sector: Manufacturing or engineering
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering
- Certification: APICS qualification desirable
- Strong negotiation skills with a commercial and competitive mindset
- Flexible and solutions-focused approach
- Confident communicator able to build strong supplier relationships
- Location: Must be local to Massachusetts, no relocation
