Freedom Boat Club - Dock Manager Job Description
Reports to: Dock Operations Manager (DOM)
Accountability: Lead Manager accountable for Dock Staff and seasonal employees, daily operations, member experience and staff capability.
1. Leadership & Staff Management
- Supervise, train, and lead all dock staff. Be the example.
- Maintain above average Customer Satisfaction and Net Promoter Scores.
- Conduct daily dock briefings, verify attendance, and manage timecards.
- Coach and hold staff accountable for appearance, performance, and member engagement.
- Coordinate with the DOM for onboarding, training completions and HR documentation.
2. Dock Operations, Maintenance & Safety
- Oversee day-to-day dock operations and ensure full compliance with Freedom Boat Club procedures and safety policies.
- Conduct regular dock and boat inspections to verify readiness, safety gear, and cleanliness.
- Perform and train staff on basic maintenance and troubleshooting tasks, including:
- Changing propellers and identifying when replacement is necessary
- Checking and replacing fuses, and understanding how circuits function
- Identifying signs of a bent shaft (e.g., vibration, visual wobble, prop runout)
- Using a drill or power tools safely for basic dock and boat maintenance
- Changing or testing a bilge pump and verifying proper operation
- Lead storm preparedness efforts, ensuring boats are secured, lines inspected, and facilities cleared.
- Enforce weather closures and reopening procedures in coordination with the Dock Operations Manager and Director of Operations.
- Maintain dock and office cleanliness to the highest Freedom Boat Club standards.
3. Member Experience
- Serve as the on-site leader responsible for CSAT and NPS performance at the location.
- Ensure all members are greeted professionally, checked in safely, and provided an exceptional experience.
- Address member issues promptly and respectfully, escalating only when necessary to the DOM.
- Reinforce the companys core values and culture in every member and staff interaction.
4. Scheduling & Labor Management
- Create and post staff schedules at least two weeks in advance in Deputy.
- Allocate staff resources efficiently to support operations while maintaining labor within budget.
- Approve overtime only with prior Dock Operations Manager approval.
- Monitor attendance, shift coverage, and performance daily.
- Council and document underperforming staff issues.
- Praise outstanding hard work and contributors. Create a fun hardworking environment for all to enjoy.
- Work dock shifts as necessary.
5. Marina & Facility Relations
- Maintain a professional and cooperative relationship with host marina management and staff.
- Report facility issues promptly to the Dock Operations Manager and assist the host marina as necessary to maintain relationship and a safe working environment.
- Represent Freedom Boat Club positively to all marina partners, members, and the public.
6. Administration & Communication
- Complete and submit all documentation accurately and on time.
- File all incident reports (IRs) in Fleetio and Reservation System within 12 hours of incident.
- Use Slack and other communication tools to stay aligned with operations and company directives.
- Seek solutions through documentation, Linktree, manuals or internal systems before contacting a supervisor.
- Maintain daily communication with the DOM on updates, staffing, and maintenance needs.
- Attend a weekly L10 meeting.
- Monitor all damage and after hours concerns via call, text or Slack.
- Respond when necessary to emergency situations.
Work Schedule
- Preseason: Club Opening Prep: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. (In Plymouth)
- In-Season: 5 workdays (10-hour shifts), including weekends and holidays as operational needs dictate (morning or afternoons - these should rotate). (At your location)
- Postseason: Hauling & shop assistance: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. (In Plymouth)
- Hourly managers will be terminated on or before January 1st. Managers in good standing will be invited to return for the following season.
- Any absence or schedule modification requires Dock Operations Manager approval.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Two plus years of marina, boating, or service leadership experience.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability.
- Familiarity with small boat systems and basic maintenance practices.
- Proficiency with Fleetio, Deputy, Slack (a plus).
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid drivers license; reliable transportation.
- Ability to secure and maintain a DOT medical card.
- Boating safety knowledge required.
- Haul and launch boats as required with company trucks and trailers.
- Successful passing of RMV check, 24 months clean.
