The Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF) is seeking a thoughtful, detail oriented, and highly motivated individual to fill an essential position within its Advancement department.
 
Reporting to the Director of Grants Management, the Prospect Research Manager will be responsible for conceptualizing, planning, and administering a robust program of strategic donor research and prospect management for PJ Library®, the flagship program of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.
 
Primary tasks include, but are not limited to, prospect identification and research, moves management, portfolio maintenance and reporting. The manager will collaborate closely with HGF senior leadership and the frontline fundraising team and will have a significant impact on the achievement of fundraising goals. The manager will interface daily with members of the frontline fundraising team, providing recommendations on portfolio management, research, and reporting. This position will be responsible for proactively developing systems to maximize fundraising potential and articulating strategies while working in a fast-paced environment, maintaining flexibility and a sense of urgency. The manager will create protocols and metrics that measure and advance the development department goals.
Requirements:
Prospect Strategy and Management:
· Collaborate with the Chief Philanthropy Officer, Director of Grants Management, and frontline fundraisers on the development and execution of strategies for major and principal giving donor prospects.
· Guide and reinforce the moves management process at PJ Library by leading frequent meetings with fundraisers to assign new prospects, match prospect interests to fundraising priorities, and ensure prospect strategy is front and center.
· With the Director of Grants Management and Deputy Director of Advancement, build a system of monitoring frontline fundraisers portfolio moves and statuses and offering recommendations.
· Conduct regular portfolio reviews with frontline fundraisers.
· Complete data entry related prospect management efforts, including assignments, strategies and moves management notes, ensuring the information is recorded in a timely fashion and is organized, stored, and maintained for data retrieval and reporting in Raiser’s Edge NXT.
 
Prospect Research and Identification:
· Identify new potential major gift donors (individuals and organizations) by analyzing and synthesizing information from available internal and external data sources including wealth screening vendors, public and online resources to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity, and connections to PJ Library and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.
· Oversee prospect research for HGF leadership and frontline fundraisers, including both individual, foundation and corporate prospects and implement new research techniques and employ data-driven prospect identification processes.
· Generate a strong and robust pipeline of donor prospect leads from leadership annual giving to major giving levels.
· Map relationships between donors and prospects to build a major gifts pipeline.
· Using a variety of electronic and print resources, develop and synthesize information on prospects (including individuals, corporations, and foundations) to produce clear profiles/biographies of their background, career, financial capacity, philanthropic interests, and nature of relationship to PJ Library and the Foundation.
· Produce donor briefing documents for events and donor prospect meetings.
· Generate in-depth donor research reports and other prospect-specific intelligence reports including identifying giving trends, gaps, and opportunities to help inform fundraising decisions.
· Collaborate with the Chief Philanthropy Officer and the Deputy Director of Advancement to develop reports for use with Board of Directors and related committee reporting.
· Track and communicate actionable news and other intelligence learned through prospect identification efforts. 
 
Data Integrity:
· With the Advancement Operations Associate, ensure accuracy of data entry related to prospect identification and research efforts.
· Assist the Advancement Operations Associate in performing related data entry and maintenance as needed. Create, manage, and interpret reports in support of prospect identification, prospect management, and to track major gift fundraising progress. Provide regular quality checks through the development and review of regular audit reports.
· Always safeguard the confidentiality of constituent information by adhering to ethical and confidentiality guidelines of the Foundation and the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA).
· Maintain a comprehensive major gift pipeline in NXT and regularly evaluate dashboards and pipeline reports; ensure advancement staff are appropriately and effectively logging prospect actions.
 
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree.
· A minimum of 5 years' experience in fundraising with a focus on conducting prospect research in a nonprofit organization.
· Ability to leverage technology to enhance fundraising efforts.
· Knowledge of the fundraising cycle and the role of prospect research within it.
· Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to investigate issues and recommend solutions.
· Self-disciplined and action-oriented with the ability to complete complex projects independently.
· Strong written skills, including editing and proofreading, to translate data for various stakeholders.
· Ability to develop a thorough understanding of HGF and PJ Library’s mission, vision, and offerings.
· Strong attention to detail, especially with names and financial data.
· Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential information.
· Strong collaborative skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues.
· Creative and resourceful mindset with a proactive approach.
· Knowledge of ethics statements by APRA, Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and other related associations.
· Familiarity with Microsoft Suite, including superior Excel skills, and online databases.
· Preference for previous experience using Raiser’s Edge NXT, and Salesforce.
 
Location
This role is available fully remote within the U.S. or hybrid from our offices in New York City or Agawam, MA. Hybrid employees are expected onsite 60% of the time. All team members must be available during standard Eastern Time (ET) business hours for meetings and collaboration.
 
Compensation
A competitive salary ranging from $65,000–$75,000 annually commensurate with experience.
