Soteria is a unionized program at Pathways Vermont and the Resident Support Staff role is a unionized position within Soteria Vermont.
 
The Role: The Resident Support Staff is a member of the Soteria community which focuses on essential house functions and being with residents. Resident Support Staff substitutes are scheduled as needed - looking for availability during 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts. Resident Support Staff are expected to respond to a minimum of one shift every eight weeks .

Direct Support Staff Team Members are responsible for aiding our residents in dealing with emotional issues and learning basic life skills through coaching, direct support, crisis management and de-escalation techniques.

Duties and Responsibilities include: Help foster a safe and therapeutic environment for residents, maintaining appropriate boundaries, identifying risks, completing patient safety checks as required, and assisting in daily activities. Encourage residents participation in groups and activities. Help recognize behavioral changes in patients and inform necessary team members. Direct Support Professional (DSP) Float position – Home &amp; Community, full-time with varying

Summary: This Home &amp; Community DSP position provides support for individuals with developmental disabilities in their homes or community. The schedule changes every two weeks and incorporates a range of different shifts including days, nights, weekends and overnights.
This caregiving position involves working with individuals either in a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio with a mixture of duties and responsibilities, including direct care, personal care, and community support. Duties vary in intensity and frequency based upon the individual(s) being supported. Extensive training provided.
Essential Functions:
<ol>
<li>Provide support in helping individuals develop and maintain independent living skills including social skills, cooking and nutrition, communication, money management, community activities, household duties, safety, health and personal hygiene.</li>
<li>Provide medication administration, if the individual is unable to administer their own medications. This is determined by the agency nurse. Medication training is provided by the agency.</li>
<li>Assist individuals in accessing and engaging in community and social activities. These could include going out to eat, attending concerts or movies, building friendships, volunteering, taking walks, or participating in sports or workouts. Provide transportation to work and community activities, and must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.</li>
<li>Support individuals in achieving goals outlined in their service agreements. Adhere to support needs as outlined in a positive behavioral support plan if necessary. Accurately track an individual's progress, inform the Program Manager of any changes affecting an individual's well-being, injury, illness, and health or emotional changes.</li>
<li>Complete required documentation (daily notes, medication logs, incident reports, progress notes, etc.) accurately and on time, and adhere to all regulations, policies and procedures. Follow safety protocols to maintain a safe environment, and report unsafe conditions to the Program Manager. The position acts in accordance with legal responsibilities to ensure the individual's safety and welfare and maintains confidentiality.</li>
<li>Be able to work with a diverse group of people, including staff, individuals, guardians, families, co-workers, and management. Foster and assist individual's good relationships with family, friends, neighbors and the community at large to promote better living standard for individuals. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.</li>

Education/Experience:
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Assist individuals with planned activities and community involvement.</li>
<li>Develop a relationship map to gather information about the individual in order to establish social inclusion opportunities.</li>
<li>Assist individuals in developing a network of people in their lives. Maximize opportunities for the individuals they support with disabilities to get to know others and maximize the opportunities for others to get to know the individual.</li>
<li>Assist the individual in obtaining a sense of self-esteem through active participation in the community.</li>
<li>Provide individualized type and level of support to include, but not be limited to, personal care and/or skill acquisition etc.</li>
<li>Assist individuals in establishing, maintaining, and presenting a positive image. This may involve such activities as assisting in the bathroom, bathing, showering, and dental hygiene, etc.</li>
<li>Maintain a calm demeanor and respond quickly and appropriately to aggressive or verbal outbursts. Scan room and individual for potential danger.</li>
<li>Assist in developing and individualizing the yearly Person Centered Planning by providing information for assessments and by developing implementation strategies for goals/objectives and methods for monitoring the delivery and quality of supports to the individual.</li>
<li>Complete documentation requirements as specified by the Individual Service Plan to include the scheduled data collection and monthly progress notes to show an increase or decrease in behaviors to continually support individuals as they grow and reach goals.</li>
<li>Assist in the orientation/training of new staff, which may include introduction to an individual's support persons and to an individual's ISP, strategies, dreams and goals, and treatment plan.</li>
<li>Distribute medication in accordance with He-m1201 as applicable.</li>
<li>Report any safety, health or human rights concern immediately to the Supervisor.</li>
<li>Understand and ensure compliance with applicable state regulations.</li>
<li>Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.</li>
</ul>

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
<ul>
<li>Work environment- The positions is typically indoors, unless the individual wants to go outside. The noise level is minimal at the residence.</li>

· Physical demands- Direct Support Providers must be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs. and to provide transfers as necessary. Walking and standing required frequently with occasional stair climbing. Must be able to push wheelchairs and operate wheelchair lifts/Hoyer and barrier free lifts. Emergency behavioral intervention must be followed in accordance with behavioral intervention techniques and individual behavioral plans.
 
Travel: 
Must have access to personal vehicle during all scheduled work hours. Frequently travels with supported individuals utilizing personal vehicle as well Community Choices vehicles. Must possess and maintain a valid NH license and safe driver's record in accordance with Community Choices standards with adequate liability insurance.

Role of Direct Support Providers
