The Department of Emergency Medicine at The Larner College of Medicine (LCOM) at The University of Vermont (UVM) is seeking an Emergency Medicine Physician desiring a career in academic emergency medicine. Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in the Clinical Scholar Pathway will be commensurate with years of experience and accomplishments.
 
Our Network Department of Emergency Medicine provides clinical coverage for the University of Vermont Health across hospital sites in Vermont and northern New York. Collectively, we provide service for approximately 200,000 patient visits annually, and our hospitals serve a catchment of 40,000 square miles and 1.4M people. LCOM students and emergency medicine residents train clinically at three of our sites with elective rotations at the other sites. Our primary teaching campus is the University of Vermont Medical Center, the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the greater region. The majority of our academic faculty provide clinical coverage at multiple sites, including our rural and critical access sites in both states, underscoring our commitment to high quality rural acute care delivery.
 
In addition to the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC), our clinical partners include Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH); Central Vermont Medical Center (CVMC); Porter Medical Center (PMC); Elizabethtown Community Hospital (ECH); Elizabethtown Community Hospital-Ticonderoga (ECH-Ti); or Alice Hyde Medical Center (AHMC). Working in a multidisciplinary environment, the Nurse Specialist collaborates closely with the nursing director, cardiologists and the broader multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes, with a focus on nursing practice, program planning, quality and professional development. The Magnet-recognized nursing team works together to address complex patient needs in a supportive environment. Located in the new Klarman Building, the team works in a thoughtfully designed, 32 bed inpatient unit and a 6 bay observation unit that enhances both patient and caregiver experience. The population includes patients with cardiac heart failure, chest pain, non-ST elevation myocardial infarctions (NSTEMI), ST elevation myocardial infarctions (STEMI), cardiac arrhythmias and patients who are pre- and post- cardiac procedure. The primary cardiac procedures include but are not limited to diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations, electrophysiology procedures including permanent pacemaker implants, internal cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implants, and ablations including Pulmonary Vein Isolation (PVI) procedures. The population also includes patients who are pre- and post- structural heart procedures such as Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), MitraClip placement, and left atrial appendage closure device implants. Due to the acute population, most patients require continuous cardiac monitoring with frequent assessments and many require high risk infusions (Lasix, Heparin, and Nitroglycerin titrated by nursing staff based on the patient’s symptoms). The 32-bed inpatient unit is a blended acuity unit, managing several intermediate level patients requiring specialized drips (Amiodarone, Diltiazem, Lidocaine) for arrhythmias and patients with pericardial effusions requiring pericardial drain management. The BIDMC Nursing Mission is to build on a legacy of nursing excellence by caring with compassion, advancing the art &amp; science of nursing, and advocating for the health of patients, families, and communities. The Nurse Specialist (T1) acts as a clinical leader with the primary goal of continuous improvement of patient outcomes and safe nursing practice. Requirements:
<ul>
<li>Master's degree or higher in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field.</li>
<li>Must be fully licensed by the State Board to provide therapy independently and without supervision (e.g., LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, LCPC, LCSW-C, LISW, or LP).</li>
</ul>
 
Pay: $111-$157 per hour. Pay rates are based on the provider license type, session location, and session types.
