ESSENTIAL DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned)

<li>Maintains and repairs lift equipment, to ensure efficient, safe operation.</li>
<li>Performs daily checks, in winter, at the direction of the Lift Maintenance Supervisor/Manager.</li>
<li>Verifies strength of wind at the top of lifts and advises Lift Maintenance Supervisor, so that he may decide on whether or not lifts should be started, at beginning of the day and throughout the day.</li>
<li>On instructions from supervisor, checks assigned machinery locations in readiness for operation.</li>
<li>Starts lift machinery, checking for abnormal sounds, oil levels appropriate, etc., marking items off on the daily log sheet.</li>
<li>At the end of the day, makes sure that all lifts are turned off.</li>
<li>Checks log of maintenance work that needs to be done, as recorded by Lift Operators and performs repairs or maintenance. </li>
<li>Frequently works at heights to manipulate switches, etc. climbing towers in all weather, to do repair work.</li>
<li>Lifts heavy objects, such as chairs.</li>
<li>Wears appropriate PPE as necessary, i.e. hardhats and safety Glasses and fall restraint harness.</li>

<li>Adjusts repair and/or overhaul air conditioner systems, brakes, electrical systems, spring &amp; suspension components, steering and front-end components, ignition systems, hydraulic PTO systems and valves, generators, compressors and trailers. Replaces damaged/defective parts.</li>
<li>Diagnoses vehicle/equipment problems including diesel engines, transmissions, electric and hybrid propulsion systems, and makes necessary repairs.</li>
<li>Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on various vehicles and equipment to ensure quality, safety and proper working order.</li>
<li>Greases and changes oil. Hydraulic fluids and coolants on a scheduled basis according to approved procedures and as directed by the Vehicle Services Supervisor or Automotive Fleet Foreman.</li>
<li>Performs general and complex repairs on heavy-duty trucks and special equipment.</li>
<li>Responds to road calls and refueling situations. Makes necessary repairs either on the road or in the garage.</li>
<li>Performs safety checks to ensure the ability of vehicles and equipment to pass a Massachusetts Safety Inspection.</li>
<li>Enters manually or by computer, tasks and parts used on work orders along with diagnostic findings. Works closely with supervisor/foreman to ensure accuracy of work order information.</li>
<li>Operates repair equipment such as but not limited to strut machine, tire machine, wheel balancing machine, acetylene and oxygen torch, welder, and computerized and electrical diagnostic tools.</li>
<li>Operates department tow vehicles and transports vehicles/equipment from site to site, to/from vendors and from field locations.</li>
<li>Recommends needed supplies.</li>
<li>Performs related duties as required.</li>

Required Qualifications
<ul>
<li>A high school education or the equivalent; and</li>
<li>At least four years of experience in repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment including experience as a vocational/technical student; or</li>
<li>Any equivalent combination of education training and or experience.</li>
<li>Class B Commercial Drivers License or the ability to obtain within six months.</li>
<li>Massachusetts Hoisting Operator's License (1C) or the ability to obtain within six months.</li>
<li>Clean Air Act section 609, motor vehicle air conditioning technician certification, by an EPA approved trainer, or the ability to obtain within six months.</li>
<li>This position has been designated as essential in instances where the MWRA Executive Director requires essential personnel to report to work such as inclement weather and other emergencies.</li>

Knowledge and Abilities
