Direct Support Staff Team Members are responsible for aiding our residents in dealing with emotional issues and learning basic life skills through coaching, direct support, crisis management and de-escalation techniques.

Duties and Responsibilities include: Help foster a safe and therapeutic environment for residents, maintaining appropriate boundaries, identifying risks, completing patient safety checks as required, and assisting in daily activities. Encourage residents participation in groups and activities. Help recognize behavioral changes in patients and inform necessary team members. The position is to support one individual who lives with her family in a private residence in Salisbury, NH. You will be responsible for helping with daily routines in the home and community.
 
The person experiences a developmental disability, and she uses a powered wheelchair for mobility and has a wheelchair van for transportation. She has medical needs that require constant attention from a support staff throughout the day. The person enjoys regular daily routines and activities in their community and loves learning and seeing new things. The support staff will provide personal care, medication administration, attend medical appointments, monitor their health, safety, nutrition, grocery shopping, community activities, and community connections.

<li>Assist in the orientation/training of new staff, which may include introduction to an individual's support persons and to an individual's ISP, strategies, dreams and goals, and treatment plan.</li>
<li>Distribute medication in accordance with He-m1201 as applicable.</li>
<li>Report any safety, health or human rights concern immediately to the Supervisor.</li>
<li>Understand and ensure compliance with applicable state regulations.</li>

Work Environment and Physical Demands: 
<ul>
<li>Work Environment- can be occasionally hectic with occasional periods of high stress. Must be able to maintain a positive and professional demeanor in a busy program environment.</li>
<li>Physical Demands- must be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and provide transfers as necessary. Walking and standing are required frequently with occasional stair climbing. Must be able to push wheelchairs and operate wheelchair lifts/Hoyer and barrier-free lifts. Emergency behavioral intervention in accordance with MOAB techniques and individual behavioral plans may be required. Driving a passenger van and vehicle is required frequently.</li>

Travel: 
Must have access to a personal vehicle during all scheduled work hours. Frequently travels with supported individuals utilizing personal vehicle as well Community Choices vehicles. Must possess and maintain a valid NH license and safe driver's record in accordance with Community Choices standards with adequate liability insurance.

Direct Support Professionals are members of a team responsible for providing high quality direct care services to adults with developmental disabilities. As a nonprofit organization, we believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. We are looking for both entry level and experienced individuals to work as Direct Support Professionals in our residential homes. The right candidates will be responsible for providing care and assistance to Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Full and part time positions available in Burlington, Chelsea, Winthrop, Revere, Waltham, West Roxbury, Hyde Park and Saugus. Please indicate preference for location and shift.
Salary: $20 per hour. 
 
$2.00/hour differential for high intensity programs
 
What you’ll do:
<ul>
<li>Offer guidance for residents during skills building</li>
<li>Develop and implement individual treatment plans for residents</li>
<li>Assist with daily living activities, including meal preparation, money management, doctor’s appointments and assisting with personal hygiene</li>
<li>Ensure appropriate staff-to-client ratio at all time</li>
<li>Develop and promote a supportive relationship with the residents</li>
<li>Support each Individuals existing relationships and assist in increasing their network of friends and acquaintances.</li>

What you’ll need:
<ul>
<li>Education:
<ul>
<li>High School diploma or GED required. </li>
<li>Bachelor’s degree in any related field preferred.</li>

<li>Experience:
<ul>
<li>Zero to six years related experience (depending on DSP level) providing child care/elder care/direct support to developmentally disabled persons or previous experience supporting individuals in a mental health/special education or other human services setting is required.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Skills:
<ul>
<li>Must have valid Massachusetts Driver’s license. </li>
<li>Must be or able to become MAP certified</li>
<li> CPR/First Aid certified within five months of hire (training provided).</li>
</ul>
