Job DescriptionPosition Announcement – Communications Coordinator

Community Action Partnership of Strafford County (CAPSC) located in Dover, New Hampshire, is hiring a Communications Coordinator.

The Opportunity

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for shaping and elevating the voice of CAPSC through written content, media engagement, and stakeholder communications. Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer and working closely with the Advancement team, this role ensures that CAPSC’s mission, programs, and impact are communicated clearly and consistently to the public, supporters, and staff. From press releases and newsletters to website content and grant narratives, the Communications Manager is the agency’s lead writer and editorial strategist.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Development & Management
    1. Write and maintain CAPSC’s core promotional materials, including organizational overviews, brochures, and program descriptions
    2. Draft and distribute compelling press releases, impact stories, staff or client profiles, and donor features
    3. Manage internal and external newsletters, including content planning, editing, and distribution
    4. Collaborate on the production of the Annual Report and other storytelling assets
  • Media & Public Relations
    1. Build and maintain relationships with local and regional media outlets
    2. Pitch stories and coordinate interviews to promote CAPSC’s work and events
    3. Monitor media coverage and assist in crisis or rapid-response communications when needed
  • Advancement & Events Support
    1. Work closely with program staff to identify visual storytelling opportunities and capture impact in the field
    2. Coordinate with Advancement and Communications team to align messaging and visuals
    3. Track and report on social media and website engagement metrics to inform content strategy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3–5 years of experience in communications, public relations, or writing/editing roles
  • Excellent writing, proofreading, and storytelling skills
  • Experience creating newsletters, press releases, or donor-facing content
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across departments
  • Experience in nonprofit communications, especially in human services or community development
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact)
  • Working knowledge of media relations or journalistic practices
  • Basic understanding of grant proposal components and fundraising communications

Salary and Benefits

CAPSC is an EEO employer. The range for this position is $55,000 to $60,000 annually.
