The VA-BU Translational Neurotherapeutics Laboratory located at the VA Boston Healthcare System (Jamaica Plain) seeks a full-time Health Science Specialist. Our research involves evaluating markers of pathology and neuroinflammation in rodent models of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Gulf War Illness (GWI), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) under various treatment conditions. This position will support the Principal Investigator (Dr. Christina Tognoni) in our current study funded by the Department of Defense, “Military-Related Toxic Exposures as a Risk Factor for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis”. 
 
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: 
Reports to Principal Investigator. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

<li>Provides coordination and support to applied research and innovation projects. </li>
<li>Works with the Investigator on grant funded studies </li>
<li>Provides assistance with research, analysis, and project management </li>
<li>Manage mouse breeding colony (including recording and validation of genotyping results)</li>

Job Description 
Eurofins Environment Testing is looking to hire a full time Microbiologist for our Middleboro, MA location. This candidate will work with Laboratory Manager to plan, direct and control the workflow in the specific area of responsibility and to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of productivity of the Microbiology laboratory. Under general supervision, performs sample handling in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations for environmental laboratories. Participates in documenting and performing tasks necessary to maintain the integrity of samples and support the analytical data.
This is Full tie Monday-Friday&nbsp; 8:00am-5:00pm Overtime as needed.&nbsp; Occasional Saturday.
Compensation is $18-22/hour&nbsp; (DOE)&nbsp;
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
<ul>
<li>Run requested analysis on samples submitted to the laboratory.</li>
<li>Document results for analysis on bench sheets.</li>
<li>Perform routine laboratory tasks including but not limited to: media preparation, wash glassware and maintain retained samples.</li>
<li>Maintain certifications of the laboratory with RI and MA certification boards</li>
<li>Research and Develop new methods of analysis in order to improve the capabilities of the laboratory</li>
<li>Assist with training new staff in new methodologies</li>
<li>Maintain Quality Control and Quality Assurance Program for Analytical Balance’s Microbiology Laboratory</li>
<li>Maintain stock and other consumables in the laboratory.</li>
<li>Work with staff of Analytical Balance and other departments in to increase productivity of laboratory and company</li>
<li>Revise Standard Operating Procedures as requested</li>
</ul>
Qualifications 
EDUCATION &amp; EXPERIENCE:
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree in a science related field or 2 years of professional experience preferred.</li>
<li>Willing to train applicants.</li>
<li>Ability to stand for long periods of time and manage employees</li>
<li>Knowledge of database programs, and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel</li>
<li>Ability to work with chemical and solvents that may emit unpleasant odors and unappealing test samples.</li>
<li>Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work effectively with high volumes, meet short deadlines, and give direction</li>
<li>Effective verbal and written communication skills</li>
</ul>
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
<ul>
<li>Strong in aseptic technique, pipetting</li>
<li>Ability to practice discretion and good judgment and maintain confidentiality</li>
